Recently, Vu Hoang Viet a friend in Vietnam who was involved with the Vietnam JoomlaDay I attended last year, shared with me the following news article. He's translated it for English speakers below:
If you have the impression that more people are helping out with version 1.6, then you are correct. I just did a quick look through the CHANGELOG file for the past month and I found 22 names of contributors. Here they are:
Amy Stephen, Andrea Tarr, Andrew Eddie, Angie Radtke, Arlen Walker, Christophe Demko, Christopher Garvis, Dejan Acman, Elin Waring, Hannes Papenberg, James Kennard, Jean-Marie Simonet, Jeff Channell, Jeff Fendley, Jonnathan S. Lima, Louis Landry, Mark Dexter, Nabyl Sadki, Omar Ramos, Robert Deutz, Ron Severdia, and Sam Moffatt.
The Vulnerable Extensions List Team have updated the procedures for the Vulnerable Extensions List and thought we would share how we do it to prevent some common and increasing miss-understandings.
As readers of this blog, the development mailing lists and the work group forums know, in recent weeks we've been collecting feed back on having some paid development. We asked people to reflect on the impact on them personally and collected both survey type information and open ended responses. Thank you so much to the 70 people who responded for taking the time to share your thoughts and for the really thoughtful and heartfelt responses.
The form closed a little while ago, and we know people are curious, so we wanted to share the results right away. The

As you know, this past fall OSM started to pay Louis and Andrew for a day or two of their time per week working on Joomla! Development. This was done as an experiment, and now is the time at which we will begin evaluation of the results. The most important question is: what is the impact of this on our community of contributors, which is to say the people who are contributing to the Joomla! project. We are also interested in the thoughts of the wider world of engaged users and Joomla!

Short before christmas 2009 we Ole wrote a blog asking the community for your input related the new OSM board members which the CoC needs to elect in February 2010. With the call "Community input needed - choosing new OSM board members" we started something new. Non of us in the CoC know what we will get as response or input. With more than 100 votes and 19 comments it is one of those blogs that got quite some attention. Some of the regional communities even posted a

Do you remember the GSOC project JConnect on Joomla?. This multi-integration engine started out by connecting Joomla! with Elgg. If you are new to the project or forgot about it, see this page. Due to conflicting brand names, JConnect is now JConnekt; read the full story on the

Even if the use of aliteration for the topic of this blog post doesn't excite you, the newly created forum: Trending Topics might. It's kind of an experiment, based on the input from others of course. Sorry if it doesn't work out, but I'm putting my reputation on the line hoping it will.
Initially only 'Trender Tenders' will be able to start new topics, but anyone who is a registered member will be able to reply to them. We hope this will maintain a little bit of order and good results

The Joomla Community Leadership Team is proud to announce the addition of two new members.
Wendy Robinson is currently on the OSM board. She will be leaving OSM when her term is up in February.
Ole Ottosen was already on the Production Leadership Team, but found that most of the work he was doing was for the community side of the project. Ole's move from the Production Leadership Team to the Community Leadership Team is effective immediately.
With a new year upon us, we welcome both Wendy and Ole to the team.
This is just a short note to say that we've asked the Forum Admins to archive the White Papers forum while the Production Leadership Team works on a replacement in conjunction with the rebooting of developer.joomla.org and the commencement of new development initiatives this year. The content will be kept for some time as there is good material in there to work off. More

The Joomla! Production Leadership Team is pleased to welcome two new members, Christophe Demko and Jean-Marie Simonet.
They have both demonstrated remarkable and continued contributions for joomla 1.5 and the upcoming joomla 1.6, and their combined insight and devotion for i18n/l10n and translation matters, will be of great importance for further improvements of this part of the joomla software.
We see them as the best people for this particular job currently, and therefore are very pleased that they both accepted the invitation to join the team.
No matter how upset you may be, or how frustrated you may be, as a community we have standards of behaviour that we either accept or do not accept. Here is an example I dealt with today: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=1984921#p1984921

In February 2010 it is time for the Community Oversight Committee (COC) to elect new members for OSM Board of Directors.
During the years this process always been done without community interaction.
For this upcoming election we would like to change that.
We acknowledge that the greater world wide joomla! community for sure could help us a lot in this election process, and make us aware of potential candidates we may overlook.
Therefore we would like to ask the joomla! community to help us, by

Last month The Joomla! Project issued two Requests for proposals. One is for major events and one is for management of the demo site. We are happy to report that a number of promising preliminary proposals for major events and proposals for managing the demo site were submitted.
For major events preliminary expressions of interest were received from 7 groups (in alphabetical order):
One of the great things about the recent Joomla! Developers Conference in New York was that, with Andrew, Ian, Louis, Ron, Sam, and myself, we had all four Development Coordinators plus a majority of the Production Work Group all in one place for the very first time. This gave us the chance to talk in depth about an important issue that is critical to the future of the project -- the release cycle.
As many of you know, version 1.5 was released in January of 2007, almost 2 years ago. That means that it will be over 2 years between versions 1.5 and 1.6. I think most of us would agree

The last time I visited Spain was for the Joomla!Day 2008 in Madrid. During this event I was already impressed of the commitment the Spanish community has for the Joomla project and the attitude they have towards open source. The social aspects of the project and the community efforts are clearly visible as well. Some serious sponsors have made the event in 2008 possible.
When I stepped into the room this year one of the first things I recognized was the poster with the sponsors of the event. Not extremely prominent more like understatement. However this post was pretty huge

The Joomla! User Association Norway (Foreningen Joomla! i Norge) and the Joomla! Project are delighted to announce a sponsorship of 10,000 kr (about $1500) for development work toward a system for easily transferring wiki help content to a joomla instance. There a specific interface will make it easy for Translation Teams to provide localised help. This will provide vital support the project's vision of "people around the world using their preferred languages" and "People publishing and collaborating in their communities and around the world."
Now that the Joomla Developer Conference is over, I'm taking a bit of time to slow down and work on a few things and catch up on sleep. Curiously enough after shifting between time zones (from Brisbane [GMT+10] to Seattle [GMT-8] to New York [GMT-5]) I think I just switched back to Brisbane time even though I'm still in New York (yes, I slept all day!).
So in my last blog I covered a bit of my last week and a half of Joomla! conference travels. I was sitting in the middle of Microsoft's Web
