There has been much speculation recently about duplicate content in Joomla (Duplicate Titles in Joomla). As I have discussed before, the question is not so much about Duplicate Content, but about pagerank dilution with Joomla URL's.
Although many in the Joomla SEO community have commented on this, there seems to have been pushback from Joomla developers, past or current, that there is nothing to see here, move along. Duplicate titles or URL's don't matter, Google is all seeing. < [...]

One of the greatest things about Joomla! is the ability to customize anything you want. It even enables you to change the template that you use for the administrator back end of your site, just as easily as you can change the template for the front end of your site. The default template for the Joomla! 1.5 administrator is the culmination of countless hours of design work by Andy Miller (http://www.rockettheme.com), and it provides a great interface for managing your site. However, the brilliant minds behind Joomla! recognized that there would be possible reasons for modifying the look of the...

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a web host. Usually the first things we look at are price, storage, and bandwidth, but I would argue that storage and bandwidth are mostly irrelevant as criteria for choosing a host. Buying a hosting service because it offers a huge amount of storage and bandwidth is like buying a car because it has tires. Every web host offers tons of storage and tons of bandwidth for a reasonably low price, so that really takes those two things out of the equation. Price is important, but I would also argue...

Joomla has a syndication module. This allows you to have an RSS feed of a section or category on your site. In fact, offering RSS feeds of your site is even easier. Just add the following to section or category page URL of your site: ?format=feed&type=rss Instant RSS Feeds!

It is really amazing how many contribution people give to the Joomla! project that are not developing of code. And is really great fun to see how much these contributions are honored by the community - you. One of the areas in which you can see this community contribution for the community are the events which go around the world.
The most recent events took place on the West Coast of the USA, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Thailand. Three of these events have been organized by the regional community and presented Joomla! during one of the exhibitions and conferences to a very broad audience. The Joomla!Day in Mountain View took place already the second time and was very much fun as far as reported back.
For the last three month in this year Joomla! will travel again. End of this week you will be able to enjoy Joomla during the Joomla!Day in Hungary, a week later your travel destination is Johannesburg and after that you better by in Istanbul. These events are just the remaining three for October. In November there are already two Joomla!Days scheduled one for Switzerland and one in Sweden. If we move on this pace I'm pretty sure some new event will popup in December as well.
I like to use the opportunity to start a little call for Joomla!Day registrations for 2009. We have already the first applications and also known events confirmed us that they will organized a new event again. If you are interested to organize a Joomla!Day in your country or region please get in touch with us using the events forum. We will support you with a mentor and additional events related material to make your event as easy as possible. And I'm pretty sure it will be great fun meeting the people near you, all loving the Joomla project.

About three weeks ago JoomlaCode's back end PostgreSQL database was upgraded from 7.4 to the 8.3 - and since then the performance of the entire system has been spectacular. The system is running a lot smoother and so far we've managed to handle more load than we were previously able to do with the old 7.4 version of PostgreSQL. Our maintenance is looking like its going to work a lot better as well resulting in less overall down time for the system. We'll probably end up doing some more work performance wise to get the system better able to handle load. As always, we'd like to thank GForge for supplying the system, Rochen for the hosting and in this instance PostgreSQL for their database system (obviously with many improvements between 7.4 and 8.3!)
You'll also notice Robin's blog entry about the mailing lists that have now been resurrected. New projects get a commits list so you can keep abreast of any commits. You can also join Joomla!'s commit list as well and see the commits that have been taking place to Joomla!'s SVN repository.

I hope this will be the first of a series of open discussions focusing on popular Joomla extensions.
A very smart SEO Club member helped me brainstorm a list of things to be aware of when optimizing a site with Fireboard. I'm going to give those here and then turn if over to you guys for any other tips, tricks or problems that you have.

Community Builder 1.2 Release Candidate 3 has been completed by the CB Team. RC3 addresses all the issues identified in the RC2 forum area (24 issues) and also a dozen more found by the test team and the CB development team. CB 1.2 RC3 has been running on Joomlapolis for a few days now and we believe that it is a very close to stability release ... but this remains to be seen .
RC3 is available - once again - to our supporters (doc subscribers, language translators, testers, etc) as a thank you for there efforts and continued support.
RC3 also contains a number of very nice last minute features:
custom field input validation
integer field type
image field type
new CB Tool to check on fix integrity of user database
more extensive layout facilities and substitutions (a professional template is in the making to take advantage of these new facilities)
Lets pound away and get Community Builder 1.2 stable out as soon as possible!

(http://washington-dc-joomla.eventbrite.com/)If you read the Alledia blog regularly you know we're doing training for Joomla beginners across the eastern, southern and mid-USA. You can find a full list of classes on JoomlaTraining.com (http://www.joomlatraining.com/).
Each week, with about 2 months before the class, we're giving a rundown of the training in each city. We've covered the November 7th class in Washington D.C. (http://www.alledia.com/blog/alledia-news/joomla-training-class-in-washington/) and the class a week later in New York City (http://www.alledia.com/blog/alledia-news/training-for-joomla-in-new-york-city/). The third and final one I'll cover is a session in Tampa on Saturday November 22nd.
A quick note: we took a shot at teaching in 5 cities. Washington (http://www.joomlatraining.com/washington/), New York (http://www.joomlatraining.com/new-york/), Tampa (http://www.joomlatraining.com/tampa/) and Atlanta (http://www.joomlatraining.com/atlanta/) all have enough students signed up for us to hold the classes (even several weeks out) but St. Louis is the odd one out. Not a squeek out of the people in the Mid-West. So if you'd like training in that region, try the CMS Expo in Denver in December (http://cmsassociation.com/2.html). I'll be there too!

For about a week this month there were problems with the cache component we use here on Alledia.com. I turned it off while we tried to bugshoot the issue.
We also use Pingdom.com to track whether our sites are offline and also how fast they're responding. When I logged in today, I found a stellar argument for why caching your Joomla site is so important:
Alledia.com loads twice as quickly with the cache turned on.

One of our most popular template designs makes its return in the brand new Replicant v2. Replicant v2 takes the spirit of the original Replicant to an entirely new level with an unprecedented level of style, beauty, and flexibility. Combining the beauty of a powerful transparent design, with a whole new level of features, functionality and adaptability, Replicant v2 is really something special.
Replicant v2 features a fully transparent structure that not only supports variable width or height, but is also fully supported in IE6. Breathe life into your site with incredible color and background images without sacrificing functionality.

There are many things that are important in your hosting company: stability, support and a price you can afford. When it comes to hosting for Joomla, the picture is even more complicated. The average web host server is not usually optimized for Joomla. Not only that, getting help for your Joomla questions can be difficult, if not impossible. Compass Design is pleased to announce the launch of a new service to solve the problem of easy to use Joomla hosting. The service is calle [...]

Last week, I discussed Acquia which provides managed hosting for Drupal sites (http://www.alledia.com/blog/drupal/drupal%27s-founder-tries-to-emulate-red-hat/). This week, I'm going to talk about some companies that don't quite have $7 million
in their back pocket, but are trying to create a similar industry for Joomla.
I'm always fascinated by new business models in the Joomla world, so I'll let the leaders of these two projects explain what they're up to:
